Same stuff, different name

The more I take these AWS classes, the more I'm seeing it's the same stuff I learned 20+ years ago, just with a fancy name. IAM isn't scary, it's just Active Directory. S3 isn't hard, it's just object storage akin to my Lackey plugins/HTML calls. Route53 I haven't gotten to yet in my lectures, but it looks just like boring old DNS. Maybe that's why I'm bored with my lectures. I've already learned all this stuff. It's just different check boxes, but the same stuff. Nothing scary about it, just tedious to see the new process.

I've never been on the backend of the infrastructure. I was never allowed to interface with AD much, outside of checking to make sure people had the right groups. I've never had to deal with networking stuff like DNS and routing tables. All these fancy words are just obfuscation meant to deter the weak of heart. Terraform wasn't hard. It was Lackey all over again. If you want X, then you need to fill out Y fields. Easy peasy. Docker is a bit more involved, but I'm coming up to speed with it and it's not that bad either.

It really shouldn't be terrible if I can get my foot in the door somewhere. I'm sure there will be growing pains. There always is with a new job/career. The hardest part is landing the job. Once I have the job though, I feel like I'm going into the right career for what I like to do. Troubleshooting, building, supporting, and making better with CI/CD. At the end of the day, it's the same stuff I've always done, just with more responsibilities. I'm ready for it.
